I know it hurts to watch her go, and Henry, but they are not gone for long. They will be a part of your lives, in one way or another, forever. Children always need their parents, no matter how old they get. Always.
I still remember my own college drop off, where my parents flew me from Montana to Boston. I remember trying to appear like I had it all together but seeing my mom struggling to leave with tears in her eyes, wanting to help me put everything away and make friends in an entirely alien environment. As soon as they left, I closed the door and sobbed for hours. It’s so beautiful and painful in some way to see that future me will still sob at that moment with my own child. Sending hugs to you and Sarah, and know that both Henry and Addie will come home all the time. I’m one of the Helena kids who was “sucked back”
This is such valuable and beautiful perspective Mackenzie! There is such beauty to loving something so deeply that it hurts so much to let it wander away further than you're wishing for. I know they'll be back. Soon enough.
