BACK AGAIN! The Matchbook | 3.27.26

Little Bits Of Light

Holy hellbeans, back with TWO videos in ONE week!? Who even AM I?!

That’s right, another fun, informative, probably nonsensical episode of The Matchbook, and this time we have a very, very special guest. Gilly “Berto” is one of our favorite people alive, she’s home from college on Spring Break, and she’s offering up a hot slice of YOUTH to this geriatric proceeding.

FYI, if you dig content like this, and want to help make sure it keeps getting made, the easiest way to do so is to join the damn family and say “Hey, this is totally worth a coffee a month to keep alive!” It changes my life, truly. Clickada Button, and it shall be so.

On with the show!

Lord G’s Finds

  • Vigil by George Saunders - What happens when you combine Lincoln in the Bardo (my favorite book of the last dozen years) with City of Angels, and a strange fever dream that comes right before death does? This book. It’s original, it’s fantastic, it’s enlightening, it’s illuminating, and it’s perfectly bizarre just like Saunders always is. I’m not yet finished, but so far I am absolutely in love with this, and the way it picks out the staggering beauty in such everyday things, whilst also being a powerful statement as to the consequences of the lives we lead. Yeah. He nailed it. Again.

  • Carhartt WIP PINK PANTS! - I know this is a silly one, but probably my favorite clothing brand is Carhartt Work In Progress, and I’ve always, always wanted Pink pants. Problem is, these bad babys were $188 and I ain’t NEVER spending $188 on clothing. Ever. Luckily, Nordstroms, whom I didn’t even know was still a thing cause we don’t have shopping in Helena, MT, had them on mega clearance and so I got them for $60. STEAL. They have a tiny bit of linen in them so they are softer than their workwear stuff, and they are pink, which is my second favorite color. Yes, yes, and they are baggy, and oversized, and I love them 3055.

  • Deadloch - First off, Amazon sucks and now that they charge you MORE money to just watch what you’re Already paying for without their 103505 ads really sucks, and I refuse to give them a penny more, but dammit, shows like this exist and they are so f’ing funny, and make you laugh out loud so often your tum hurts. This is season 2 of this show, and if you haven’t seen Season 1, please, please start there. It’s genuinely one of the most unhinged, hilarious, quick-witted, and fantastically fun shows you’ll ever watch. The two stars, two brilliant and perfectly comedic women, make this show constantly enjoyable, and on top of all that, you get to help solve murder mysteries. The one-liners from this show will never leave you, I can promise you that.

Lady G’s Finds

  • Lions Mane Supplement - Perimenopause is a b. I’m just gonna say it. When my doctor suggested this supplement to help with brain fog, my first thought was “What?! I don’t need this!” but then I forgot the name of my primary care doctor and it took me over 30 minutes to remember her name. Clearly I did. I’m only a few days into taking this, but I’m so excited to be more proactive with all things hormonal, all things aging. I’ll keep you posted.

  • Mumford & Sons “Prizefighter” Album - Rarely, in the last bunch of years, is there an album by a band that you can literally listen straight through without skipping. This is that. I love every single song. Maybe you will too!

  • Travel Watercolor Journal - I’ve gotten really, really into architectural sketching for our travels, and this little journal is one of my favorite possessions. I’ve got a long way to go to reach where I want, but I love it so much. This is like therapy to me, and I cannot wait to do more.

Gilly Berto’s Finds

  • Matcha Chasen Whisk - I’ve gotten super into matcha, making my own, and I love whisking it until it’s ready. This is the perfect bamboo whisk, and it came with an amazing set.

  • Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir - I LOVE this book, love the science of it, and I was terrified at how the movie would turn out, but I just saw it two nights ago and it was Perfect. I love the use of real effects and not CGI. The book though, always better. Read it

  • Vanilla Ladybug Cake w/ Vanilla Frosting - I love cake, and I just made this for a house party my Mom had last night. The frosting ladybugs definitely got scary looking, and the cake used WAY more vanilla than I thought possible, but it was delicious. I think you’ll love it.

  • Tiny Tiny Pottery - I LOVE miniature things, and these little tiny baby pottery pieces are some of my most favorite things on earth. I love how tiny they are and that they fit in my pocket, but are still fully formed little pieces. People are amazing in what they can do.

  • The Cave by Mumford and Sons - I’m learning to play this right now in my guitar lessons, and I always have to screw up twice in order to get it right, but it’s sounding better and better each time. I hope you like it.

There you have it! A Very special edition of The Matchbook, filled with a slew of random crap.

Have a stunner of a weekend, and don’t forget to join the family by clicking below!

I love you all.

Be good.
