Edinburgh In Signs + Fonts + Branding
Scotland Through Its Smaller Art
Fresh off the most insane, exhausting, flight-cancellation/delay/nonsensical voyage home from our Scottish work trip, I have been going through all the photos we took during our time there.
We (so unfortunately and sadly) had to leave our Fuji cameras at home as they don’t have near the weather sealing and our bags were already so packed and heavy, but we were able to get so many stunning shots of one of the most beautiful countries on earth.
What struck me instantly upon going through them, however, was the unbelievable amount of signage, gorgeous lettering, medieval stone lintels, and street art by way of graffiti. The city, our favorite on earth, is alive with text, with branding, with thoughtful use of font, design, and so many unique displays of art that just hum in the background. I thought it’d be fun to show you some, some of what caught my eye, some of what I enjoyed whilst there.
I’ve long been a sucker for this kind of thing, always drawn to old signwork, old branding, old hand lettering and the likes. Here is some of what I saw whilst wandering that ancient Auld Reekie that is Edinburgh:
Many, many more photos to come, but I just wanted you all to see what I saw, on a small scale, in letters, in signs, in logos, in spray paint on those ancient walls.
Do you have any favorites?!
Thank you all, you’re so very loved, and I know how hard, scary, unsettled, and bizarre things are right now. Just know, this place is a safe place, and will always be.
How are you all feeling? What can I do?
I love you all.
Be good.

I love them all—thank you for sharing! I think my favorites are the two bookstores next to each other and the “ice ice coffee” which was only missing “too cold, too cold”.
One of my favourite cities! So magical. You've captured it brilliantly. "Songs of a Sourdough, Rhymes of a Rolling Stone" made me smile.
