I’ve long been a believer that what haunts us the most is not what we don’t understand, not the unknown we cannot peer into, but something else, something more nefarious and much more commonplace.  I believe we’re most haunted by what could have been, what we could have been if only we did things a little bit different.  I think the ghosts we most tremble in the presence of are not the gossamer spirits of those we’ve lost, but the wandering souls of the people we may have been.  Think of it as the little ghosts of ourselves like on Mario Kart when you’re competing against your own best time, or your own perfect lap, I know this is a nerdy reference, but if anyone gets it, I’ll love you more.  Anyhoo, onward…
