I like your idea of going beyond the expected, the “logical progression”. Don’t we often have/attend the birthday party because we have to? I think the “just because” celebrations are the best. The first of our street parties started years ago with a post-tornado party, luckily only an E1 but yielding enough power to sadly change the landscape in our heavily treed area. It was the first tornado in southwestern Ontario that I could recall- an event that with climate chaos has become much more commonplace. We got together to talk about what we had lived through and how it had changed our properties and our lives. We had made it through and made it through together. It led to annual street parties each summer.

"Why not show the world that just because you’re not getting married, growing a family, or graduating from a school, there’s still value in all you’re accomplishing too, and that you’re proud to share it." Right now, I am happy just to wake up next to the love of my life every day and survive one day at a time. I am celebrating growing my wedding filmmaking business, which I started this year amidst being laid off due to Covid. I am celebrating finding myself again after two years of chaos and pain. I am celebrating my own humanity and imperfections. I am celebrating the simple joys of life.
