Before I get on with the show, I do have a little plea, and I hope you’ll take two seconds to read: Over the last few months, I’ve lost quite a few paid subscribers here, and to be completely honest, it’s making it a lot harder to keep up with the workload. I know times are tight, but I also know that places like this truly matter, they change lives, they represent independent journalism and art, and we need them now more than ever. I’m going to extend the 50% off Annual Subscriptions, something I cannot really afford to do but must, so if you’re able, I’d absolutely love your support here to keep Signal Fire up and running. Click the button below if so.
Somehow, another month has up and vanished and I’m not quite sure how that’s true. February was a much quieter month than January before it, colder, more snow, less movement for most of it, then frantic motion at the end.
Where we went, I carried my little Fuji, and these photographs, this tradition, has become the new journal I keep, a little diary of what we did, what we saw, what we endured or enjoyed. I love doing them, I love not dumping the card until the end of the month, not knowing what I snapped until the first day of the new month.
These are the behind-the-scenes peeks at my simple life in this simple place. I hope you enjoy them, I really do.

Right at the beginning of February we had to venture through the snow and slush to Bozeman for a track meet. It was bizarrely held, but Henry did great and was awarded the Montana Cross Country Athlete of the Year. Rad.

February is also a massively busy month for birthdays in our family, as both Sarah and I’s Dad celebrated theirs on February 10th, and then Pat and Henry both had theirs near the end. If you like cake, this is the month. Played some games, met a puppy named Cloud (appropriate), watched a weird American football game, celebrated Valentines Day (kindof) and watched Sarah’s BFF sing in a local bar.

After even more snow, the weather let up enough for us to travel to Spokane, about a 5 hour drive over 3 mountain passes, to watch another track meet. Unfortunately, both Henry and Addie got sick once we got there, and we ended up having to drive the 5 hours back home after only being in Washington for about 15 hours. Yikes. At least we got to celebrate Pat. You’re welcome brother.

Finally, the weather started to change for a bit, we had some days into the 50s which meant melting and sloppy mud just about everywhere. I found another of my favorite logo on earth (the ICE logo for bags of ice cubes, not the assholes who want to kick people out of the country) and we took Gilly on a million walks. Henry turned 18, which is insane, and then before we knew it, March was here.
Simple peeks, simple life. I really hope you dig the look into what it is that spins our days. I really do.
Bottom line, I love it here, and I love you all. See you next week!
I love the ICE (frozen water cube) logo. I always have. Letters intrigue me especially on signs and in magazines. If you are ever in Cincinnati, look up the sign museum. It's a slice of heaven on earth. The outside is even cool if it's not open when you are around.
Where that coffee table book of your daily "Gas station" moments, mmmm? These are lovely.
