I know, I’m late. Very. I still have April to show you, and I’ve not yet even done March. I’m here to atone, and to do so with some photographic beauty that offers you a little peek inside my weird life. Inside the weird way my brain sees the world.
That’s right, another of my Fuji Journals and March was a pretty packed month with randomities. (I know that’s not a word.) This Friday post is generously provided to you, All of you, from the kindness of the paid subscribers. If you want to make sure some of these stay free (and reap a whole slew of rad benefits, including knowing you’re literally keeping this place alive) you can upgrade your subscription super easy right here:
Anyhow, here’s some crap my eyes saw over the wonderful month of March:

Things kicked off with Addie starting a new job as a Starbuck’s barista, which she rocks at but I’m not sure she really loves. She’s a lot of things, corporate ain’t one of em. We also sat in on a slew of other extremely hateful bills trying to be snuck through our local legislature, protested the hell out of them, and photographed other brave souls doing the same thing. It’s a beautiful thing watching people fight for what’s right, what’s kind, what’s fair, and what’s humane. I’ll always show up for that. Then, it was an airplane to Santa Fe, NM to visit Sarah’s folks on their annual pilgrimage to warmer climates. Pro tip: Find an Airbnb of a rad place with local architecture. It makes things way better.

It’d been years since I’d been back to New Mexico, having previously lived in Albuquerque when my Dad was there with his baseball team. Things have grown, immensely, and I didn’t even recognize Santa Fe when pulling into town. It just sprawled, in all directions. Still, the downtown market area still maintains its unbelievable soul, and even though we were bombarded by freezing temperatures and a snowstorm (that we were literally fleeing Montana from), we had a great time and I got some amazing light that I’d previously shared a few shots of here.

Ended the Santa Fe trip with a stop in Pecos National Historic Park (where all the amazing light in the kivas was to be had) and then a stop at our second Meow Wolf installation. This time it was the original, the one that started it all, and it did not disappoint. Back home to Helena, for more protesting the bullshit at the State Capitol. It really did feel in March that the nonsense and legal shenanigans would never end.

In a shocking turn of events, MORE track meets happened, Henry broke the all-time record for the 1-mile run at Helena High School (which is f’ing insane) and Sarah continued to bake amazing bread with
and donated so many more loaves to the Helena Food Share. Our dearest friend Beavs (of fame) moved out of our apartment we rent and in with his amazing partner and we’re just so f’ing happy for them both. Life slowed a bit, and duty called. By duty we mean Costco trips. Yep. Ugh.All in all, March was a great month, my eyes got to see so much beauty, and once again I was reminded of a simple fact:
No matter how hard life can be, how challenging it can become, it’s pretty fucking splendid being alive.
I love you all. Be good.
Well done. Such images make us want to go… but that’s kind of the point. Yes?
A snapshot in mind…
A quandry for us.
Can one develop a life
In a small darkroom?
Go, breathe it all in!
Fill your lungs with airs
of life, in person.
More than a snapshot.
To be there is to take in
the light of being.
Yet, images take
real life experiences,
that lit more than eyes
Sensing more than light,
the mind creates a feeling
of being alive.
Your mind’s eye opened.
Sensations of OG life…
felt through a lens
Wonderful as usual 🩵
