Carry on only if you can, get the book how to pack, use the travel books 500 hidden secrets and 111 places you must not miss to find obscure places, use instagram to find inspiration for future trips as well as more locations to visit, always eat breakfast at or next to your hotel—being hangry ruins everything, stop at local cafes for lunch and dinner and only have one or two reservations for food to give you the most time to explore, or, find restaurants in or next to museums/landmarks to have a coffee and use the restroom or have a meal, always use the restroom when one is available, no matter what, don’t worry about looking like a tourist — take the damn selfie and have the best time!

Your first advice is the wisest! So many people stress and stress about ONLY carrying on and then they end up miserable wherever they go because they feel like they are wearing dirty clothes or don't have the right shoes they actually Do need. Fully agree on the breakfast rule!

I missed it! We had a storm/ tornado alert and a tree fell onto our driveway which damaged my husband’s car. If I had been home, my car would have been squashed bc it fell directly on where I park. After that, I was calling the tree guys etc etc. We never had tornados in southern Ontario until the last 20 years or less. Listening now after the live broadcast.

Holy crap, that's EXACTLY what our weather called for! You can even hear some of the thunder in the background of the recording! I'm so sorry! Welcome to global warming. :( Hope so much all is well.

These are so great. Love the new branding and live-streamy goodness.

Oh, but to answer the prompt... What's kinda fun is to try being a tourist where you live. Right now, I'm kinda burned out on travel, but the tourist impulse is an itch that needs scratched at times and doesn't need to be restricted to a place away from a place.

I dunno if this makes sense. Anyhow, keep going, you guys!

I'm so glad you dig it! And I couldn't agree more about being a tourist where you actually live, as we're also feeling kinda burned out with travel lately. It's just so much and it's gotten so much harder, so much more expensive, and people feel so much more strained and rude. You are rad, thanks for this.

As you mentioned in the video, stay open to opportunities that come up. Last May I took a trip to New Mexico. When I lived there, one of my favorite things to do was to attend the traditional feast day dances at the pueblos. The entire pueblo community would turn out, everyone dressed in traditional regalia, and dance for the entire day. These feast days are usually open to the public. I really wanted to see a dance again, but there were no feast days scheduled during my trip, so I decided that I would visit the local Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, which hosts small pueblo dance groups. That was the plan (the tourist plan, which was fine) but on the last day of my trip, just before I was going to head to the center, I got a text from a good friend whose family lives at one of the pueblos. She said that there was a dance going on there that afternoon that wasn't open to the public, and she invited me to go with her. I have known her and her family for many years. So I got to spend the entire afternoon with her family watching the dances, and then they invited me to eat at their home. So plan, but stay open!

Absolutely this. A feast day sounds AMAZING and someday I really want to witness this! What a beautiful thing.

When that day comes, feel free to reach out, and I’ll try to point you toward some opportunities.

Aaaaghhh- gonna miss you in London by a few weeks. Audrey and I will be there mid December to see Kodaline in concert!

Traveler v tourist- either way I want to linger, savor, observe and remember.

And kissing the Blarney Stone was worth it! Not like you can do that just any day.

I would chew off my right arm to have the opportunity to be a replacement for the walking poetry. Just saying.
