Hello Light Chasers! SO, I’ve been racking my brains on how to balance this whole social media/newsletter world, and I think I’ve come up with something amazing and I’m really excited for it. IF you are reading this, it means you’ve chosen to subscribe to this little newsletter, for which I am so grateful. I got a TON of helpful feedback from all of you in the Google Doc I sent out asking how you were liking the newsletter so far, and one of the things I got a lot of, was you all wanting more of the stories Behind the poetry, kind of like VH1’s “Behind the Music.” SO, I think what I’m going to do going forward, is if you subscribe to this newsletter, you’ll get the full scoop on the process behind each typewriter poem, the stories behind it, the lines that inspired or began it, and for all you who have taken the extra step and joined the official community (and are so generously choosing the paid monthly option, for which I honestly don’t even have the words to say thank you), I’ll answer any questions you may have in the comment section so we can have a full discussion if you so desire about each poem, any poem, your poems, whatever. I’m opening the door to my creative process, and I’m excited as hell for it. I hope you’re digging this idea.
This is fantastic and I love your idea to answer questions about the poems here in the comments. I know you write in an almost stream of consciousness way without editing. How do you decide where to put line breaks in the poems? Is it something in your gut that you follow? Is it automatic in a way that you don’t think about it?
This is a beautiful poem and a beautiful story. I love the idea of being able to hear the stories behind the poems and learn about your creative process. What a privilege for us!
What’s it like to write these custom poems - to put yourself in someone’s shoes and convey their emotion? I think you do it very well, so I’m curious how you do it.
I love, love, love the idea of stories behind the stories. I cannot wait. Truly! That being said, I think that having art and supporting art is as important as anything else we do. More important, in fact. So, if this community disbanded today (let's not) and you stopped sharing in this space today (please don't), that subscription has already been honored with all the art therapy we've received to date. Thank you from the bottom of my soul. Perhaps, you can rest the brains a bit today? I hope.
On another note, this poem, wow. You really do get people and I suspect you do because you really take the time to hear them and then empathize. That is such a rare talent. I have lived this story and, at first, could not get through the poem without crying. I understand it so well, but to have someone else get it, now that is very special. Born of Peace - there's a title to explore and and pursue. Perhaps something to consider when the borders open again?
One of my favorites so far. You inspire me. Keep it up. You keep the fire of creativity alive.
Beautiful. I love the story behind the poem concept. And maybe someday you’ll share the one you wrote for me. 🙂
This is so beautiful and moving.
Beautiful 😭😍
What a beautiful love story
Oh my word, this is sooooo beautiful!
Oohh, chills. This is beautiful. And what a story. Life is so incredible sometimes. Well, most of the time really!
And LOVE the idea that we’ll hear some of the process.
